Volatura
Terms of Service
Effective date: 26 September 2026
App: Volatura (com.volatura.app)
Developer: HornKru
Contact: volatura.app@gmail.com
These terms are the agreement between you and HornKru (“we”, “us”) for the Volatura app. By installing or using Volatura, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
Volatura is a reader. It opens sheet music you already have, and lets you mark it up, organise it, and practise with it. It does not supply sheet music, and it never changes the PDF files you give it.
Your right to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Volatura on devices you control, for your own music-making — including professional performance, teaching, and study.
You may not resell the app, redistribute modified copies of it, or attempt to circumvent its integrity or licensing checks. Reverse engineering is permitted only to the extent that applicable law allows it regardless of this clause.
The music you add is your responsibility
You are solely responsible for every file you bring into Volatura, whether you add it from your device, import it from Google Drive, or import it from another app’s library (such as a forScore or MobileSheets export).
By adding a file, you confirm that you are entitled to use it — because you created it, you bought or were granted a licence for it, it is in the public domain in your country, or the rights holder otherwise permits your use.
A few things worth being clear about, because they catch people out:
- Public domain is territorial. A work that is free of copyright in one country may still be protected in another. Your country’s rules are the ones that apply to you.
- Owning a printed copy is not the same as owning the rights. Scanning an edition you bought does not by itself give you the right to copy or share it, and a modern engraving of an old work can carry its own protection as a published edition, separate from the composition.
- Sharing is distribution. If you export a Volatura bundle, share a score with another person, or hand on an imported library, you are distributing those files, and you are responsible for having the right to do so.
Volatura gives you no rights in any work. Its features — annotation, setlists, export, backup, sharing — are tools; using one does not make a use lawful that would not otherwise be.
We do not host, sell, index, recommend, or supply sheet music, and we have no access to your library: your files stay on your device and, if you enable backup, in your own Google Drive. We are therefore not in a position to review, monitor, or remove what you hold. If your use of a file causes a third party to bring a claim, that claim is yours to answer, and you agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, or cost arising from files you add, use, or share in breach of these terms or of someone else’s rights.
Your library and your backups
Your scores, annotations, bookmarks, stickers, setlists, notes, and recordings are yours. We claim no ownership of them and no licence to them.
Keep your own copies. Volatura’s cloud backup is a convenience, not an archive. Backups can fail, restores can be incomplete, storage can be lost, devices break, and Google Drive is a service we do not control. You are responsible for maintaining independent copies of anything you cannot afford to lose — particularly original PDFs and performance markings you depend on.
Deleting a score in the app, or uninstalling Volatura, can permanently remove data. Check before you confirm.
What the app costs
Volatura is currently free to download and use, with no ads. We may in future offer optional paid features. If we do, they will be sold through Google Play, the price and what it includes will be stated before you buy, and Google Play’s payment and refund terms will apply to the purchase. Nothing you already have will be taken away and put behind a payment.
Services Volatura relies on
Some features depend on services provided by Google — Google Drive for backup and import, Google Play services, and Firebase for crash and feedback reporting. Your use of those is also governed by Google’s own terms, and we are not responsible for their availability or behaviour.
What information the app handles, and when anything leaves your device, is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Changes to the app
Volatura is actively developed. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may stop distributing or supporting the app. We will not do this in a way that is intended to deprive you of access to your own files: your scores are stored on your device in standard PDF form, and remain readable by other software.
Acceptable use
Do not use Volatura to break the law, to infringe anyone’s rights, to attack or overload the feedback and backup services, or to submit abusive content through in-app reporting. We may block access to the optional online services (feedback reporting, App Check verification) where they are being misused. This does not affect the app itself, which works offline.
No warranty
Volatura is provided “as is”. Beyond what the law requires of us, we make no promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every device, or fit for any particular purpose — including any use where a failure would be costly to you, such as live performance. Software has bugs; plan accordingly, and carry a fallback for anything that matters.
Nothing in this section limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law, including your rights concerning digital content that is not as described or does not work as it should.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law permits:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, bookings, or opportunity, or for loss of data, scores, annotations, or recordings.
- Our total liability to you, for all claims taken together, is limited to the amount you have paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim — which, while Volatura is free, is zero.
These limits do not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to fraud, to gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or to any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected by anything in these terms.
Ending the agreement
You can end it at any time by uninstalling the app. We may end it if you breach these terms materially. Ending it does not delete data already on your device or in your Drive — that stays with you until you remove it.
Age
You must be old enough to enter into a binding agreement where you live. If you are not, a parent or guardian must accept these terms on your behalf.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Portuguese law, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country’s law, and you may bring proceedings where you live.
If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a complaint between us, you may refer the dispute to a consumer alternative-dispute-resolution body. Write to us first at volatura.app@gmail.com — most things are faster to fix than to argue about.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above, and continued use of the app after that constitutes acceptance. If a change materially reduces your rights, we will make it visible in the app rather than relying on this page alone.
